Map of Cote D’Azur

Traditionally the Cote D’Azur extends from Menton in the East to Cannes in the West.  However, we often refer to the Cote D’Azur or French Riviera as being the coastal region from Monaco all the way to St Tropez or even Marseille.

Want to know where to stay on the French Riviera? Then go to our page ‘Where to Stay‘.  It will give you ideas on travel arrangements and the best locations on the Riviera to be able to see all the glamorous resorts of the Cote D’Azur.

If it’s your first visit to the French Riviera then a good place to stay would be Nice or Cannes.  The reason for this is that both resorts have excellent public transport systems and are on the main coastal rail line which runs from St Raphael to Monaco.  From Nice you can also catch the bus 100 which takes you along the lower corniche road.  At the last check, the cost was a mere 1.50 euros!  From the lower corniche road you will get magnificent views across the bay at Villefranche and of course the approach to Monaco and Monte Carlo.

The Corniche roads run between Nice and Menton and overlook the Cote D’Azur.  The three roads are carved into the mountainside and comprise of the Grande Corniche at the top, the Moyenne Corniche in the middle and the Basse Corniche which runs along the coast. The Grande Corniche provides the spectacular views down to the blue Mediterranean and Monaco and its where some of the scenes from the Alfred Hitchcock film ‘To Catch a Thief’ were filmed. Up here you will find the charming village of La Turbie.
